Sex starved husband demands N1.2m as refund from wife's family in court

His name is Malam Mukailu Naibi of Keke Village, Kaduna, his wife allegedly starved him of sex for two years, and he demanded N1,2 million as compensation from the wife’s parents before an Abuja Area Court today.

He told the court that the amount covered the bride price he paid before marrying Maryam, his wife.

He also told the court that the amount covered the cost of damages done to the house after Maryam allegedly set the house on fire before fleeing to court to seek divorce....continue at the cut to read the rest. BTW. Men, would you demand a refund of bride price if your wife starved you of sex? And to the women, why would you starve your husband of sex? I wonder.

He tendered written documents with records of all expenses made on his estranged wife and her parents, in addition to a witness to testify in his favour.

Naibi, aged 37, had told the court that his wife had refused to make love to him since they got married two years ago.

He also accused her of setting their house on fire.

"Your Worship, since we got married two years ago, my wife never allowed me to make love to her for once and all my attempts to do it always led to fighting.

"I married her out of love and I still love her, but with this development, I have no choice but to ask the court to grant her divorce wish for the sake of peace,'' Naibi said.

In her testimony, Maryam, who is 16, told the court that her husband made love to her once, but that she was not impressed and so she wanted a divorce.

"I don’t love him, I don’t love anybody who bears his name and I hate anybody who loves him,'' she told the court.

Maryam’s mother who was her only witness, while having denied most of Naibi’s claims, still admitted some, saying that Maryam’s father was in a better position to clarify some issues.

The Judge, Haruna Masanawa, after hearing all the submissions of the parties in the case, ordered the court's registrar to summons more witnesses, including Maryam’s father.

He adjourned the case to Jan. 16, 2013 for further hearing.

Update on Virginity test: My pants had blood stains - Pupil

Fourteen-year-old Esther (not real name, pictured above), one of the victims of the virginity test that was allegedly conducted on pupils of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ogun State, by their principal, fears she might have lost her virginity. She spoke with Punch correspondent.

Why did you choose to do the virginity test when some pupils ran away?

I did not choose to do the test. After I and other female Senior Secondary School one pupils lined up in front of her (Olufunke Aladeojobi’s) office, I fled the scene but she noticed it and sent people after us threatening to deal with us.

Why didn’t you explain to her that you were not interested in the test?

I explained to her that my parents would be mad at me if they got to know that I did such a test without their consent but she brought out a cane and threatened to beat me mercilessly.

What happened afterwards?

Our principal marched me into her office and the school’s nurse asked me to put off my pants and laid me on the bed. She wore a glove, spread my thigh and dipped a finger into my private part. The school nurse then told the principal who was beside her that I was a virgin.

What did your principal do after the nurse said you are a virgin?

The principal said I “should not open my thigh” to any boy or man. She subsequently gave me two Ogun State customised exercise books.

Did you lose blood?

Yes, I lost blood. I didn’t notice it initially. It was the next person who saw me while dressing up that told me that my pants were stained with blood. But, I can’t say if it was the blood from my menstrual period because my menstrual period just ended or the blood was as a result of the virginity test.

Did your principal know you lost blood?

She didn’t because I left the place almost immediately and she was busy attending to other pupils.

How did your parents get to know about the incident?

I washed my blood-stained pants when I got home. I didn’t initially want to tell my mum but she noticed that I was keeping to myself. When she now queried to know what was wrong with me, I explained everything to her.

Did your principal warn you against telling your parents?

No, she didn’t. But I wouldn’t know what she might do to me if she got to know that I told my parents about it because she is strict and we all fear her. That was why I felt reluctant to tell my parents.

How have you been feeling since you underwent the test?

I have been doing fine just that I’m not happy about the incident because my classmates have been looking down on me. They keep saying that we have been “disvirgined.” I feel ashamed of myself.

Are you a virgin?

 

Yes. I have not had sex before but with what everybody is saying I don’t know if I am still a virgin. I really wish I’m still one.

Colorado Teacher, 27, Arrested For Having Relations With Two Male Students, 17, Did One Over 40 Times

A choir teacher has been arrested after being accused of having sex with two of her students.
Amanda Rowles is alleged to have had the affairs with the 17-year-old students while working as a choir and drama teacher at the Colorado Springs High School.

Police began investigating the 27-year-old after receiving a tip off that Rowles was sexually involved with a student.
Investigators spoke to students at Calhan High School who said they were aware of rumours about the affairs.

The interviews led them to a pair of 17-year-olds who claimed they had sex with Rowles.
One of the students allegedly told investigators he had sex with her ‘on at least 40 occasions’ over a six-month time span starting in December, 2011.
‘He said they would either go on hikes or go to her mother’s residence when her mother was not home,’ according to an arrest affidavit said.

Another student allegedly told deputies he pursued a relationship with Rowles, in the spring of 2011 after they kissed in a classroom after school.
‘He kissed her on the lips and she kissed him back, but she did eventually push him away and told him it was wrong for them to do that,’ the affidavit said.

Deputies allege the teacher eventually gave in to a sexual relationship with the second boy, also 17 at the time.
When Rowles ended the relationship in May, the teen told police: ‘That hurt’.
Rowles was booked into custody at the Aurora City Jail on suspicion of two counts of sexual assault by one in a position of trust.
She was released from jail after raising $50,000 bail.

Edith Casas, 22, is due to wed Victor Cingolani today close to the jail where he is serving 13 years for the murder of model Johana Casas.
Johana was shot dead days before her 20th birthday in August 2010 in the southern Argentine city of Pico Truncado, 1,200 miles south of the capital Buenos Aires.

The controversial wedding will take place in Edith's home town in front of just two friends acting as witnesses.
However, several armed police officers will also be present when they escort Cingolani from the city jail.

Model Johana Casas was shot dead in 2010 days before her 20th birthday

The twins’ mother Marcelina last night claimed her surviving daughter was suffering psychological problems and said she feared Cingolani would take her life too.
She said: 'There are no words to describe what Edith is going to do. She’s guilty of a terrible betrayal.'
Edith, Cingolani’s girlfriend of five years, has insisted her future husband is the victim of a miscarriage of justice and is backing his appeal against his murder conviction.
She said: 'Victor is not a violent person and I’m not mad.
'We’ve got no doubts about what we’re doing. We love each other.'
A second man, Johana’s boyfriend at the time of her murder, will go on trial next year over the killing.
Marcos Diaz was at a party with Johana hours before she appeared dead.
Lucas Chacon, Cingolani’s defence lawyer, insisted: 'The cigarette butts found near Johana’s body belonged to Diaz and all the witnesses have incriminated him.
'I can understand Johana’s parents’ attitude. But Edith is not marrying a killer or anything like it.
'She is marrying a man who was convicted in a judicial scandal. All we want is justice.

Nkiru Sylvanus' family paid N8 million to kidnappers for her release

 

The police in Owerri, the Imo state capital told reporters during a press briefing yesterday that Nkiru Sylvanus' family paid N8 million to the kidnappers before she was released on Thursday night.

The Commissioner of Police, Adisa Bolanta, said the family did this without the knowledge of the police. He said they had warned the family not to negotiate or deal directly with the kidnappers but they defied their orders

 

"They defied our warnings and continued negotiations with the kidnappers. They went behind us and paid N8 million to them. We have made some arrests in connection with the case and very soon they will all be apprehended." He said.

 

 

I however want to suggest to the Hon.Commissioner of Police, Adisa Bolanta, not to be overly angry and disappointed by the action of the family because when you consider the horror these ''mechinaries of darkness'' do to their captives, the family will consider their negotion and payment the right decision.

 

There was a case in Ahoada, in Ahoada east local govt area of River state, were ransom and payment were delayed, the kidnappers killed their victim and buried him in the forest. Considering incidences like this will want to make the family of the victim to do whatever is neccessary to facilitate the release of their relative.

 

‘Principal, two nurses conducted virginity test on us’

Fifteen-year-old Janet (not real name), one of the victims of the virginity test allegedly conducted on pupils of Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, spoke with Punch correspondent, Temitayo Famutimi. Excerpt below...

What happened in your school on December 10, 2012?

Rev. Olufunke Oladeojobi, our school principal (pictured inset), came to some Senior Secondary School One classes and announced that she would be conducting virginity test on us. She marched us with the assistance of some members of staff into her office and thereafter conducted the test on us.

What do you think prompted her to conduct the test?

Our principal is a disciplinarian and she always lament on the assembly ground that she used to receive reports that we (female pupils) were in the habit of sleeping around with our classmates and technicians.

Did she force the test on you?

Yes, it was like a form of compulsion because she went after some of us who ran away after claiming to be virgins and compelled them to take the test. At least I know two of them like that. The first person who did the test was in that category. She didn’t do it willingly.

How many of you did the test?

Ten of us but initially, she said she was going to conduct the test on all the pupils who claimed to be virgins but she stopped after she discovered a pupil who had lost her virginity from the first group comprising 10 pupils.

Where did the test take place and how many people conducted it?

The test was carried out in the principal’s office. A bed was placed on the floor of the office and our principal and two other nurses were there with two other members of staff. One of the nurses works in our school’s sick bay while the other nurse was invited.

Who conducted the test on you?

It was the resident nurse in our school that conducted the test on me. Our principal was at the door entrance and she (the principal) ushered me in when it got to my turn.

How was the test conducted?

The resident nurse removed the glove she used for the person before me and wore another one. She positioned me on the bed, removed my pants, spread my legs and observed my private parts with her eyes. She then dipped two fingers into my private parts. The principal was beside her that time and the nurse told her (principal) that I was a virgin.

What was your principal’s reaction when the nurse said you are a virgin?

The principal said I should not mess around with boys and she gave me an Ogun State Government customised exercise book.

Did you lose blood after the test?

I did not lose blood but I heard that some people lost blood. I left the vicinity of the principal’s office after the test was conducted on me.

Did she conduct the test on those who were menstruating?

No she didn’t. They asked them to go whenever they noticed it and gave them exercise books.

How did you feel after the test?

I didn’t understand the gravity of the incident until our senior colleagues in school started threatening to cause mayhem after the test. I told my mum when I got home.

What did the principal do to the person who was discovered to have lost her virginity?

When I came back for my bag, I saw the girl who was said to have lost her virginity kneeling down in her office and I saw the principal talking tough. She wrote down her name on the black board in her office and announced verbally that she had been suspended.

The principal has since been suspended. I think she should be arrested. She's scarred some of these young girls for life!

Principal quizzed for conducting virginity tests on pupils

Principal, Ajuwon Senior High School, Ajuwon, Ifo Local Government Area, Ogun State, Rev. Olufunke Oladeojobi, has been quizzed by the police for allegedly conducting virginity tests on the pupils.

Oladeojobi, who was described as a strict disciplinarian, by her pupils called in a nurse and jointly carried out virginity tests on a group of 10 students last week Monday.

It was further learnt that the principal did not seek the consent of the parents/guardians of the pupils before conducting the test on Senior Secondary School 1 pupils.

During the test, it was alleged that the principal and the nurse whose name could not be ascertained allegedly dipped their fingers into the pupils’ private parts.

After the exercise, which took place at the principal’s office, each of the pupils was given an exercise book.

A 15-year-old pupil, who identified herself simply as Ayo, said the principal came into the classroom on the day and announced that all female SSS 1 pupils should converge on the assembly ground.

She said the principal subsequently asked that those who had yet to lose their virginity should stand apart.

Ayo said, “We are over 600 in SSS 1 but only about 300 of us are females. Those of us that are virgins are 38 and we were matched into the principal’s office with the assistance of members of staff.

“They subsequently divided us into three groups of 10, 15 and 13 and I was in the second group. The principal later addressed us and threatened that any pupil who fails the test would have her name written in the school’s black book and would be suspended.”

Ayo said she became apprehensive when everyone who emerged from the office where the test was being carried out came out with a sad and disgusting look.

She said, “When my class captain emerged from the room, I asked her why anyone that came out of the office looked depressed? I was held spell bound when she told me that the principal and the nurse dipped their fingers in turns into their private parts, adding that she had started bleeding as a result of the penetration.

“Just as I was asking further questions from her, the principal dashed out of her office and announced that she had discovered one student who had lost her virginity out of the 10 students that were examined.

“She wrote her name on one of the notice boards in her office and ordered the rest of us to return to our various classes. Two of my friends who had similar experiences burst into tears as they narrated what happened.”

Thirteen-year-old SSS I pupil of the school, identified simply as Ujunwa, said the principal was happy that she was able to “catch a promiscuous pupil” as she felt proud to discuss it on the assembly ground the next day.

She, however, added that her joyous moments was soon short-lived when the parents of the 10 pupils stormed the school in protest against the development.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the pupils rebelled against Oladeojobi last Wednesday as they did a sit-in on the assembly ground protesting and demanding that she should be redeployed from the school.

It was gathered that it was the teachers’ intervention that calmed the pupils.

Ujunwa said, “The parents of the girl that was said to have lost her virginity who happens to be a member of the Press Club and the other nine parents besieged the school last Tuesday and Wednesday and queried our principal for conducting such an unauthorised test on their children.

“The parents then came with policemen attached to the Ajuwon Police Division where they had reported the incident on Thursday and arrested our principal.”

When our correspondent visited the school on Tuesday, the school had closed for the term while Oladeojobi’s office was shut. Her telephone rang out while a text message sent to her phone was not responded to.

When contacted, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajuwon Division, Mr. Waheed Yusuf, a Chief Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.

He said the investigation into the matter was still “ongoing” and declined further comment until “investigations were concluded.”

But, a policeman attached to the station who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Oladeojobi owned up to the incident.

He said, “She confessed that she conducted virginity tests on the pupils and that ‘she was trying to help them.’ We took her in for questioning on Thursday and Friday but she was not detained as my superiors were taking into consideration that she is a civil servant.

“We might have some problems if she (Oladeojobi) is to be charged to court for sexual assault because the matter was reported to the police late and no medical examination was immediately done on the affected pupils to use as a proof in the law court.”

Dangers of Obesity Extend into the Womb

Women who are obese prior to pregnancy increase the risk of birth defects to their children, according to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics. In addition to regularly monitoring their weight gain during the course of their pregnancies, all women should be mindful of their body weight even before conceiving.

 

In a population-based case-control study, researchers from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia, interviewed hundreds of women to determine the relationship between prepregnancy weight and certain birth defects. They found that obese women were more likely to have an infant with spina bifida, a neural tube defect; omphalocele, a defect in the development of the abdominal wall; and heart defects. An increased risk of heart defects or other congenital anomalies was also seen in overweight mothers who did not quite meet the criteria for obesity.

The participants' weight was determined by calculating Body Mass Index (BMI), weight in kilograms divided by height in meters, squared. The risks for obese women and overweight women were compared with those for normal-weight women. Obese women were defined as those having a BMI greater than or equal to 30; overweight women were defined as those having a BMI between 25.0 and 29.9; normal-weight women had a BMI less than 24.9.

"The reason(s) for the greater risk among obese women is/are not known," explains lead researcher Cynthia A. Moore, M.D., Ph.D. of the National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities. Dr. Moore and colleagues discuss several possible mechanisms for the correlation between excessive maternal weight and birth defects. They propose abnormalities in metabolism of glucose, insulin or hormones, which may affect the development of the fetus. They also explain that overweight women are at greater risk for gestational diabetes, or diabetes of pregnancy, which has been linked to an increase risk of birth defects. In addition, women who are pregnant require 400 micrograms of folic acid daily in order to prevent neural tube defects. The researchers suggest that heavier women may need increased requirements of certain nutrients like folic acid to prevent defects in their fetuses.

 

The incidence of obesity is on the rise in the United States and it has become increasingly clear that weight control can have a dramatic effect on the health of unborn children. "From this study, we have identified that women who are at a healthy weight before pregnancy lower their risk of having a child with certain birth defects than do women who are obese; therefore, prevention efforts should focus on attaining a healthy weight before pregnancy," according to Dr. Moore.

 

There are several other measures women can take to ensure healthy pregnancies. Dr. Moore adds, "(Women can) abstain from alcohol and smoking during pregnancy, discuss all medication use with their doctor, and take a multivitamin with (at least) 400 micrograms of folic acid daily." These simple actions can significantly improve the chances of having a healthy baby.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)-inhumanity against women

What is Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)?

Female genital mutilation (FGM), also known as female circumcision or female genital cutting, is defined by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs for non-medical reasons".

It is estimated that approximately 100-140 million African women have undergone FGM worldwide and each year, a further 3 million girls are estimated to be at risk of the practice in Africa alone. Most of them live in African countries, a few in the Middle East and Asian countries, and increasingly in Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the United States of America and Canada.
The procedure is traditionally carried out by an older woman with no medical training. Anaesthetics and antiseptic treatment are not generally used and the practice is usually carried out using basic tools such as knives, scissors, scalpels, pieces of glass and razor blades. Often iodine or a mixture of herbs is placed on the wound to tighten the vagina and stop the bleeding.
The age at which the practice is carried out varies, from shortly after birth to the labour of the first child, depending on the community or individual family. The most common age is between four and ten, although it appears to be falling. This suggests that circumcision is becoming less strongly linked to puberty rites and initiation into adulthood.

FGM types and terms

The World Health Organisation has classified FGM into four types. As well as the term Female Genital Mutilation, there are a number of other terms or names used to describe the practice, perhaps most common, female circumcision or female genital cutting (FGC). FORWARD chooses to use the term Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as we believe that it is the term that most accurately depicts the true nature of FGM.

Where is FGM Practised?

The majority of cases of FGM are carried out in 28 African countries. In some countries, (e.g. Egypt, Ethiopia, Somalia and Sudan), prevalence rates can be as high as 98 per cent. In other countries, such as Nigeria, Kenya, Togo and Senegal, the prevalence rates vary between 20 and 50 per cent. It is more accurate however, to view FGM as being practised by specific ethnic groups, rather than by a whole country, as communities practising FGM straddle national boundaries. FGM takes place in parts of the Middle East, i.e. in Yemen, Oman, Iraqi Kurdistan, amongst some Bedouin women in Israel, and was also practised by the Ethiopian Jews, and it is unclear whether they continue with the practice now that they are settled in Israel. FGM is also practised among Bohra Muslim populations in parts of India and Pakistan, and amongst Muslim populations in Malaysia and Indonesia.
As a result of immigration and refugee movements, FGM is now being practiced by ethnic minority populations in other parts of the world, such as USA, Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. FORWARD estimates that as many as 6,500 girls are at risk of FGM within the UK every year.

Consequences of FGM

Depending on the degree of mutilation, FGM can have a number of short-term health implications:

1. severe pain and shock
2. infection
3. urine retention
4. injury to adjacent tissues
5. immediate fatal haemorrhaging

Long-term implications can entail:

1. extensive damage of the external reproductive system
2. uterus, vaginal and pelvic infections
3. cysts and neuromas
4. increased risk of Vesico Vaginal Fistula
5. complications in pregnancy and child birth
6. psychological damage
7. sexual dysfunction
8. difficulties in menstruation

In addition to these health consequences there are considerable psycho-sexual, psychological and social consequences of FGM.

Justifications of FGM

The roots of FGM are complex and numerous; indeed, it has not been exactly possible to determine when or where the tradition of FGM originated.
The justifications given for the practise are multiple and reflect the ideological and historical situation of the societies in which it has developed. Reasons cited generally relate to tradition, power inequalities and the ensuing compliance of women to the dictates of their communities

Reasons include:

1. custom and tradition
2. religion; in the mistaken belief that it is a religious requirement
3. preservation of virginity/chastity
4. social acceptance, especially for marriage
5. hygiene and cleanliness
6. increasing sexual pleasure for the male
7. family honour
8. a sense of belonging to the group and conversely the fear of social exclusion
9. enhancing fertility
